Temptation is sneaky. It often entices us by prodding our natural desires, encouraging us to embrace things that seem harmless or even good. It is only after we bite that we discover the hook hidden in the middle. This is why James encourages us to examine our temptations and look beyond the moment to see where they lead. This way we can be sure we are following God's path and not our own.
